Demise of Two, Including Four-year-old Girl Due to Landslide in Rolpa (Photo Feature)

Two people, including a four-year-old girl, died when a landslide destroyed their house in Rolpa. The house of Deusingh Kami in Chaitethan tole, Sungachi Rural Municipality-4, Syuri was buried by a landslide on the night of 2 August. Constable Begam Nepali of the Syuri Police Station informed that Deusingh’s mother, Basuna Sunar, 70, and daughter, Maya Sunar, four, were among the dead due to the landslide. Locals reported the incident to the police station, Syuri around 10 pm the same night.

Locals reported that the rescue was delayed at night due to continuous landslides caused by the rain. The bodies of the deceased were only recovered on the morning of 3 August with the combined efforts of the police, public representatives, and locals. It is reported that Deusingh is safe as he was away from home for work at the time of the incident. According to Constable Nepali, the police team from the Area Police Office in Sulichaur, who went to investigate the incident, is currently stuck at Gumchal in Lungri Rural Municipality due to road blockages caused by continuous rain.

Jaga Bahadur BK, Ward Chairperson of Sunchahari Rural Municipality-4, stated that the bodies were being transported on stretchers by locals to the District Hospital in Raugha for post-mortem. Although the family expressed concerns about being unable to afford the post-mortem due to financial constraints, Chairperson BK mentioned that they seek financial assistance from local authorities and various agencies. Still, no support has been received from any agency so far.

Likewise, Keshavaraj Barakoti, Information Officer of the District Police Office, informed INSEC that teams from the Area Police Office in Powang and the Police Office in Gumchal have reached the site and are investigating the incident.
