Demise of Inmate in District Jail
Dipak BK, 22 of Ghodaghodi Municipality-4 Janakpur, who was detained in Kailali District Jail died on September 16. BK was found lying inside the toilet on September 16 and died in Seti Provincial Hospital during treatment, as per Dipak Pandey, the Chief of District Jail, Kailali. Pandey says that although the initial investigation showed that B.K. may have committed suicide by consuming poison, the cause of death cannot be known until the post-mortem report of the body is received.
A 17-year-old girl from Attariya was arrested on September 17 for allegedly assisting B.K. by delivering poisoned food to him inside the jail. The investigation is ongoing, according to DSP Kavindrasingh Bohora of the District Police Office, Kailali. Although the deceased B.K. had spoken with his family members over the phone at 1 p.m. on September 16, it was later reported that he passed away at 4 p.m. the same day. Nirman Pahrai, a relative of the deceased, mentioned that no complaint has been filed regarding the incident as B.K.’s father is expected to arrive in Dhangadhi from India only on September 18.
The relatives of the victim stated that some local newspapers reported that B.K. was allegedly beaten and killed inside the jail, and they are calling for an investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the family. The body has been kept at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi for post-mortem. B.K. who was accused of the rape was sent to prison on 15 February by the orders of the District Court, Kailali.
