Delay in Construction of School Building, Classes Ongoing Under Temporary Arrangement from Last Eight Years

The students of Lamilang Secondary School located in Kalinchok Rural Municipality-5, have been studying under zinc roof for eight years after the earthquake in April 25, 2015. They have still not got a concrete school building.

According to Deepak Khadka, the Principal of Lapilang Secondary School, due to the contractor’s delay in the construction of the school building after the earthquake, all the teachers and students had to suffer from discomfort as they had to teach under temporary structure.

Principal Khadka also said that due to the zinc fence, the sound of teaching in one classroom is heard in other classrooms which creates a confusing environment for the students and they do not understand the chapter.

The temporary arrangement was also constructed by the school itself and from the last eight years, they are using the same building for which the school pays annual rent of NPR 32,000.

The classes of the primary level is held in one section and classes of the lower secondary, secondary and higher secondary is held in another section which is little away.

Because of the zinc roof and fence, the students suffer from extreme cold, nausea, vomiting and sickness due to the extreme heat in March and April.

Also, Dhaniram Adhikari, a teacher of the same school, said that the school had to be closed as soon as it started raining because the sound the downpour.

Bipin Khadka, a student, said that due to the zinc roof teaching, the students and the teachers get sick from time to time and even the lessons cannot be completed at times.

He further complained that even though the school building is under construction, it has not sure how long it will take.

Principal Khadka said that with the help of Asian Development Bank, the construction of the 22-roomed is being constructed and the school building has reached the final stage and teaching-learning process will be simplified after the handover of the building.
