Death of Prisoner in Jumla Jail
Pradip Tamta,34 of Mugu, Khatyad Rural Municipality-3 died in Jumla Jail on August 4, 2024. Tamla was held in the Jumla Jail for the crime of rape. Jailer Jayaprasad Pandey reported that the prisoner passed away at the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Jumla due to high blood pressure.
According to Pandey, on the morning of August 4, Tamta collapsed in the prison corridor after experiencing chest pain following a game of badminton. Subsequently, he was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead two hours later. Pandey added that the relatives of Pradip are traveling to Jumla from Nepalgunj and Mugu, and preparations are being made to send Tamta’s body on August 5. It is reported that he has a wife, a daughter, and two sons.
Pradip Tamta was sentenced to five years in prison in a rape case by the Bench of the High Court Surkhet, Jumla. He had been incarcerated in the Jumla Jail since August 12, 2022, and had served three years of his sentence. Both the High Court and the District Court had convicted him on the charge of rape. Jumla Jail is currently accommodating 123 prisoners, among whom are five women.
