Death in Detention: Police on Duty Suspended for Six Months

Paltu Ravidas, 40, of Laxminiya Rural municipality-2 died in the custody of the District Police Office after which Jayaprakash Yadav, 30, the policeman on duty during the death has been suspended on August 3, 2021. It has been informed that Yadav has been suspended for six months.

On August 3, 2021, the protesting group and the local administration agreed on suspending Yadav and recommending compensation for the family of the victim.

According to the Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, both the parties have agreed on forming a high-level investigation team to investigate the incident and recommending the victim family to the Ministry of Home Affairs for relief.

Bastola also informed that the victim’s family received the body of the deceased after the agreement.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted on July 30.

The family of the victim received the dead body only after demanding for unbiased investigation, action against the perpetrator and compensation to the family. The post-mortem report of the deceased is still pending.

The body of Ravidas was found hanging in the toilet of the detention room of the District Police Office on July 30.
