Curfew in Panauti for Indefinite Period

District Administration Office Kavre has declared curfew at Panauti Bazaar in Panauti Municipality for indefinite period of time.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kavre, Shrawan Kumar Timilsina declared the curfew from 9 am of 7 March till indefinite period of time. According to CDO Timilsina, 800m from Panauti’s east and 1km west from Kusha Devi has been declared as curfew zone.

After the road accident in which Juni Maya Gole (33), Principal, Kalika Primary School of Khanikhola Rural Municipality- 1 and her daughter Smarika (3) died on the spot, locals started riot. The mother and daughter were hit by a tripper (BA 5 Kha 5480).

There was a clash between the demonstrator and the police in which 10 were injured. Police had used tear gas and done air firing to control the riot.

From the side of police, SI Birendra Shah , Constables- Dilip Budhathoki , Sunil Ghimire and Min Bahadur Thapa, Policemen- Nabaraj Bharati and Lalit Thapa Magar were injured; informed SP Ravi Kumar Paudel.

From the side of demonstrators, Sanjay Chaudhary of Chitwan, Harka Bahadur Gyaba (40) of Panauti Municipality-7, Jib Raj Tamang and Sarat Tamang were injured.

The injured are being treated at Sir Memorial Hospital of Banepa. Constable Dilip Budathoki was injured by a bullet on his back, informed Nurse Monica Nai Chai. Demonstrator Harka Bahadur Gyaba and Sajan Chaudhary were injured by the sparks of the bullet and were taken to Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj for further treatment, informed DSP Kumar Bikram Thapa. According to Thapa, Jibraj Tamag’s right leg was also injured by bullet.

The demonstration was done by the locals in the park area. To control the situation, police did 15 rounds of air firing and 17 rounds of tear gas firing.
