COVID Vaccines Found Being Sold in a Medical Store in Dhanusha

Police have arrested Kamlesh Mandal of Shreeram Health Care of Shahidnagar Municipality-3 and Devsharan Yadav, Assistant Health Worker of Primary Health Centre on September 16, 2021, on the charge of trading COVID vaccines.

The accused duo was found doing so during monitoring by the Municipality’s Discipline Committee’s chairperson Kanhaiya Mukhia, Mayor Udayakumar Babariya Yadav, Chief Administrative Officer Shatrudhan Yadav, Chief of Health Section Kapildev Prasad Adhikari along with the police and a team of employees from the Primary Health centre. They were handed over to the Area Police Office, Yadukuha.

Mayor Udayakumar Babariya Yadav told INSEC that Shreeram Health Care of Shahidnagar Municipality-3 was monitored by the team after receiving special information. It was found that the store had four vile of Vero Cell, one vile of Johnson and Johnson, and one vile of AstraZeneca for sale after which Kamlesh Mandal of Shreeram Health Care was arrested.

In a press statement signed by Mayor Udayakumar Babariya Yadav, Chief Administrative Officer Shatrudhan Yadav, Chief of Health Section Kapildev Prasad Adhikari, it has been mentioned that Shreeram Health Care has been sealed for the time being.

According to the monitoring team, expired medicines were found at Manju Medical Hall and Chaudhary Medical Hall.

Chief of Shahidnagar Municipality Uday Kumar Barbariya Yadav said that the medical stores have been instructed to manage the expired drugs quickly and not to sell or distribute them.

He further added that the perpetrators should be brought to book for selling the vaccine against COVID-19 since the federal government had provided the vaccines free of cost to the health centre of the municipality.

DSP Jitendra Basnet of the District Police Office Dhanusha said that an investigation is still underway into the sale of the vaccine.
