Court Declares Six Years’ Imprisonment to Rape Accused

Dhanlal Rokaya, 40, of Sarkegad Rural Municipality-6 has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and compensated Rs two hundred thousand for raping a 13-year-old girl of Namkha Rural Municipality-5.

A single bench of Judge Jagat Bahadur Poudel found him guilty and declared his imprisonment on December 3, 2020, informed Mandan Raj Bhattarai from the court. The victim was also fined Rs 1,300 for Victim Support Fund.

According to Bhattarai, the accused has been on trial since March 11, 2018and his sentence has been upheld from that date.

The victim was raped on January 24, 2018. Police had arrested the accused from Manipal Hospital in Pokhara on February 14, 2018, after the girl’s father Londo Migur Lama lodged a complaint at the District Police Office on January 30, 2018, alleging that the accused had raped the girl.

According to Bhattarai, Rokaya was not guilty of murder even though the victim’s relatives had registered a case of rape and murder against him.

The girl died at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara on January 21, 2018, while undergoing treatment.
