Court Adjourned a Case of Killing After 22 Years

Saptari District court Bench of District judge Harishcahndra Ingnam has adjourned a 22-year-old registered complaint against Maidin Mian, 40, and Haluwan Mehta on January 17, 2023. Maidin Mian and Haluwan Mehta are absconding after being charged with the killing of Raghubir Mehta,65, of Kunauli Police Station, Supaul Kamalpur Village-2, District Supaul, India.

Senior citizen Metha’s dead body was found on August 16, 2000, on the south bank of the Koshi Western Canal, two kilometers west of the Koshi Barrage Bridge at Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 Bhardah in Saptari.

Sahdev Mehta, 35, the son of the deceased, identified himself after the news of the discovery of the body and filed a complaint at the District Police Office on August 17, 2000. Sahdev allegedly stalked and poisoned his father when he was on the way to court to get a court date for a case.

The postmortem of the dead body took place on August 17, 2000, at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajviraj. The district police office had registered a complaint on a charge of killing on August 24, 2000.

The District Police Office filed a charge sheet in the district court through the public prosecutor’s office on July 19, 2020, 20 years after the incident.  On the same day, the court issued a fixed-term warrant against the absconded accused.
