Complaint Filed against Prime Minster for Violation of Election Code of Conduct
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has demanded Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda be prosecuted for violation of the election code of conduct.
Prime Minister Dahal traveled in a helicopter of the Nepali Army for the purpose of the election rally organized to promote Gobind Bhattarai, the candidate of Tanahun Constituency No. 1, candidate of the alliance party, held in Dumre on April 19, 2023. RSP registered a complaint against Dahal at the Office of the Chief Election Officer, on APRIL 20.
Govinda Bhattarai, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Baburam Bhattarai, along with incumbent Prime Minister Dahal, traveled in the government helicopter for the campaign.
Suryamani Paudel, District Deputy Coordinator of RSP, went to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and submitted a letter to Prime Minister Dahal for violating the code of conduct.
During his speech during the election campaign, Prime Minister Dahal declared that Bhattarai, the candidate of the coalition, will be a minister if he wins. The declaration is against the code of conduct of the election. It is also against the code of conduct for the Prime Minister and Ministers to give any inducements and assurances to the voters.
According to RSP, the said action of Prime Minister Dahal is an election-related offense and the said action is contrary to rule no (3) of the Election Code of Conduct 2079, and therefore a petition has been submitted to take action following the Election Offenses and Punishment Act, 2073 and the Election Offenses and Punishment Guidelines 2079.
Komalnath Acharya, Chief Election Officer of Tanahu said that the complaint was registered and the Election Commission will be informed about it.
