Complaint Filed Against Beating for Insufficient Dowry

A complaint has been lodged against 24-year-old Jog Narayan Sah and his family on the charges of beating Amrita Sah, 21, of Haripurwa Municipality-2, Sarlahi. The complaint was filed at the District Police Office on June 7, 2021, after the victim was beaten for bringing insufficient dowry.

It is alleged that the accused had left injured Amrita at her mother’s house in Samsibazar and escaped.

They were married on April 26, 2021, and the victim’s husband, father-in-law Anup Sah, 50, brothers-in-law Satyanaran Sah, 30, Bhagnarayan Sah, 26, Shatrohan Sah, 20, and mother-in-law Rajkhorbali, 45, had started beating her for not bringing LPG cylinder, stove, rice-cooker, TV and refrigerator as dowry. The argument started after Amrita’s mother-in-law got infuriated by her when she asked what she is supposed to cook and as a response, she started taunting Amrita and pressurized her to get kitchen appliances from her parent’s house.

Initially, Amrita had brought NRs. 375,000 cash, 23.32g gold, 139.92g silver, one set of furniture and clothes as dowry. According to her parents, they had spent NRs. 1,200,000 in her wedding. The victim has filed a complaint against the entire family.

According to SP Santosh Singh Rathore of the District Police Office, Sarlahi, Anup Sah, the father-in-law has been arrested for being involved and a search is ongoing for others involved in the incident.
