Due to a lack of manpower at the Urban Health Promotion Center in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-7 Beli, local service users have faced problems from the non-operation of X-ray machines and laboratory services for four years. After the federal government stopped providing the budget to the center, the positions of one doctor and one radiologist became vacant, leading to further issues for service users.

Sunita Choudhary, a pregnant woman from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-7 Beli, complained that after the X-ray machine and laboratory services were stopped at the Urban Health Promotion Center due to a lack of manpower, she was forced to go to other hospitals for X-rays and other check-ups.

Firiya Chaudhary of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-15 Kanari stated that although the start of X-ray machine and laboratory services at the Urban Health Promotion Center in Beli has made it easier for locals to access health services, the lack of health workers has led to more problems for economically disadvantaged and marginalized women.

Due to the lack of skilled manpower at the health center, Asha Damai, a 21-year-old from Jugeda Digaun in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-12, complained that she is forced to go to Dhangadhi even for a basic chest X-ray and tests for urine and blood after the X-ray machine and laboratory services at the promotion center were shut down.

Although resources and manpower have been arranged to expand the Urban Health Promotion Center into a municipal hospital, the federal government’s budget cuts following the COVID epidemic have left the positions of one doctor, one radiologist, and one lab technician vacant. Jayakala Rawal, chief and senior officer of the Urban Health Promotion Center in Beli, stated that local service users, including pregnant women and economically disadvantaged individuals, are facing difficulties as a result.

He stated that although patients with diabetes and hypertension visit the health promotion center daily, the closure of laboratory services necessitates referring them to the hospital, leading to additional problems for the locals.
