Children Forced to Study Under Tin Roof Hut Due to Lack of School Building
Children studying in the child development class of Siddhanath Basic School, Daibhat, in Api Himal Rural Municipality-2, Sakar, are forced to study under a tin roof hut during the cold weather. They are compelled to study under a roof due to the lack of a building for child development. The building established for the child development classes in Sakar, Dobata, and Thala is hardly recognizable as a school from its appearance. Established in 2008, the class saw a large number of children at that time.
The school was far from the area. It took five hours to reach Siddhanath Basic School, Daibhat, and three hours to reach Mahadev Secondary School, Ghusa. Local Bhuri Dhami explained that there was a demand for a child development class in Sakar when children reached a certain age, making it necessary for them to attend school. However, while approval was given for the child development program, a building was not provided. Due to the lack of a building, children are forced to be placed under a roof made of materials like tin sheets, which only provide limited shelter from the sun and rain. Dhami stated that he had previously requested for a building, but there was no response. He added that even during school inspections, no one showed interest in the issue. As a result, children are still compelled to study under a roof.
Lalita Karki, Facilitator of the child development class mentioned that currently only three students are enrolled in the class. She added that the number of students has been declining over the past year or two. Birendra Saud, Chief of the Education Department, Api Himal Rural Municipality stated that he has no information regarding why the building construction has not been completed. He mentioned that although the child development class is still running under Daibhat, there has been a lack of interest in infrastructure development.
