Child Injured in Bomb Blast Being Treated in Deuti

Naresh Nepali, 15, of Gurans Rural Municipality-6 who was injured in the explosion of detonator at Katakuwa Community Forest in Birendranagar Municipality-7 on October 23 being treated at Deuti Hospital of Surkhet. His elder sister Leela Nepali, 21, was also injured in the blast. The two had gone to the forest to collect fodder.

‘Leela sustained minor injuries and has been discharged whereas Naresh is undergoing treatment,’ said Dr. Lokendra Thapa. He further said, ‘The boy has lost the vision of his right eye and his left eye has a thorn in it. Naresh had his eye surgery on October 24, and he still needs to be in the hospital.’

According to SP Padma Bahadur Bista of the District Police Office, the detonator may have been placed for the training of the soldiers since there is Naya Sabuj Battalion Kapase Barrack nearby.

According to Leela, the Naresh stayed at Sohan Keshar Khanal’s house in Birendranagar Municipality-7 for studies and they had gone to the forest to assist Khanal’s family as it was Saturday.

She further added that they found a lump-like object while cutting the grass and it exploded immediately after they touched it.

Khanal complained that the army reached the spot two hours after the incident although they were informed immediately.

He stated that he has managed the expenditure for the victims’ treatment and requested INSEC Karnali Province Office on October 26 to take necessary steps for the treatment and compensation for the children.
