Chairperson Aryal Urges Global Recognition of Human Rights Violations as a Common Concern
Dr. Kundan Aryal, Chairperson of INSEC, Stresses the Need for Journalists and Human Rights Defenders to Prioritize the Universal Issue of Human Rights Violations. He said this while speaking at the closing session of the training on the role of journalism in the protection and promotion of human rights organized by INSEC on October 1.
We must align our efforts with the undeniable truth, which derives its strength from the people. When addressing human rights violations, a joint inquiry by both parties becomes essential. Chairperson Aryal says that journalists and human rights defenders are passengers in the same boat and human rights are necessary for the development of journalism.
Narayan Subedi, Karnali province coordinator of INSEC, said that with this training, it will be easier to move forward with cooperation between journalists and human rights defenders on the issue of human rights with the use of technology. According to coordinator Subedi, the training to write on the issue of human rights has helped in developing the capacity of journalists.
Similarly, Dr Sriram Paudel, Head of the Department and Training Instructor at RR Campus Journalism and Mass Communication, expressed his confidence that following the training, journalists will exhibit increased proficiency in reporting on human rights issues.
Journalist Jyoti Katuwal shared her newfound knowledge of human rights reporting acquired during the training, expressing her intention to apply these insights within her media organization.
Om Shahi, another journalist who participated in the training, said that this training on human rights was his first experience. This training has motivated him to write about human rights. He said that there is information about the identification of various statistics and Google Alert.
Likewise, journalist Kalpana Dhyanga Magar, an active participant in the training, conveyed her dedication to applying the knowledge acquired during the program. She emphasized that the training shed light on the dynamics of equality and inequality between human rights defenders and journalists.
In the two-day training, 30 journalists from seven districts of Karnali province namely Surkhet, Dailekh, Rukum Paschim, Salyan, Jajarkot, Jumla and Kalikot participated.
Kiran Paudel, the Program Coordinator from INSEC informed that the training was facilitated by Dr. Sriram Poudel, Head of the Department at RR Campus Journalism and Mass Communication, along with Yuvraj Sharma, Vice Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism at Midwest University, and Kesavi Joshi.
