Beaten On Charge of Alleged Witchcraft: Victim Undergoes Treatment

Pawan Devi Yadav, 45, of Jawad Tol of Samsi Village Municipality-7 has accused Dinesh Yadav, Krishna Yadav, Ashiq Yadav and Sujiya Devi Yadav of beating and injuring her on August 21, 2020. The victim has accused that they had alleged her of witchcraft and misbehaved with her.

The injured Pawan Devi is undergoing treatment at Janaki Health Care in Janakpur, informed Sanjay Yadav, son of the victim.

According to him, on August 21, the family of Dinesh Yadav had misbehaved with his mother and alleged her of witchcraft. Sanjay then informed the police and SI Dipendra Yadav and his police team reached the spot handled the situation.

He added, ‘they came back to the house around 12 am and started abusing and beating my mother. They also beat up my sister Ruby and me who had come to save her. The victim Rubi Yadav has alleged that they tore her clothes and abused her during the beating.

Ruby said that the locals came to her rescue after she started crying after being abused. The victims have appealed to journalists and human rights activists for justice.

Krishna Yadav, who was involved in the incident, was arrested by the police on the night of August 21 but the victim has alleged that he was released on the same day due to political pressure.

SP Tika KC of the District Police Office, Mahottari said that legal action could not be taken against the victim as no complaint has been lodged with the police so far.

The victim has informed the INSEC representative that he is preparing to lodge a complaint with the police on August 23.
