Attack On Ratopati’s Journalist Krishna Singh Dhami
Krishnasingh Dhami, a journalist affiliated with Ratopati.com Online, was physically assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-3, Bakhundol, on September 25, 2023.
Dhami was admitted to Sumeru City Hospital in Pulchowk for medical treatment. He sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body as a result of being physically assaulted by an unidentified group riding on a motorcycle.
As per the Discovery News Network, which operates Ratopati Online, a news was published on September 11, 2023, in Ratopati online with a byline of journalist Dhami under the title
‘Subjective Approval for Colleges That Do Not Meet Tribhuvan University Standards’ – Even Biplav Advocates for Thematic Approval. In response to the news article, Prakash Shahi, Chairperson of All Nepal National Independent Students Union, closely associated with the Biplava-led CPN, released a statement expressing objection. He threatened that both Ratopati Online and the journalist responsible for the article would face consequences, and even issued physical threats against journalist Dhami.
Journalist Dhami was attacked while he was receiving threats. Ratopati Online has filed a verbal complaint to the District Police Complex, Lalitpur, demanding security and action against the culprits involved in the incident.
SSP Siddhibikram Shah of the District Police Complex, Lalitpur, informed INSEC that they have initiated a search for the individuals involved in the incident with the assistance of CCTV footage.
Roshan Puri,the General Secretary of the Nepal Federation of Journalists issued a statement through a press on September 13 expressing concern over the threats to Ratopati Online and the journalist who wrote the news.
Regarding the subject of the news, the student group issued a warning statement on September 12, targeting journalist Krishnasingh Dhami and Ratopati Online.
The statement mentioned, “There is a general provision that if you are not satisfied with the news or have a complaint, you can seek legal redress or file a complaint with the Press Council.” Disregarding and publicly threatening media and journalists is highly condemnable of press freedom.” It calls on all concerned parties to respect the press’s rights guaranteed by the constitution and to refrain from engaging in such actions against the press in the future.
