Attack on Chairperson of Nepali Congress , Accused Arrested

Police arrested Hari Bahadur Wali, the Chief of Infrastructure Development Office on April 14 for the charge of injuring Kesh Bahadur Bista, 56, the District Chairperson of Nepali Congress. The victim alleged that the accused had hit him with a beer bottle on his head on 11 April.

DSP Nabin Karki from the District Police Office stated that a dispute arose at Krishna Hotel in Baluwa Sangrahi, Bangad Kupinde Municipality while Salyan Province Assembly (B) MP Suresh Adhikari and Chairperson Bista were returning from Surkhet to Salyan. The conflict involved Hari Bahadur Wali and Jwala Shahi, the Chief of Ministry of Water Resources and Energy Development Office Salyan. During the dispute, a beer bottle was thrown at Bista causing a head injury. The treatment of the victim was initially done in Sallibajar and Surkhet and is now being treated in Kathmandu. The victim filed a complaint on 12 April at the District Police Office.

The incident was initially kept secret for reconciliation. However, it came to light when no agreement was reached. DSP Karki stated that further investigation regarding the incident is going on. In addition, The acting Chairperson of the party, Santosh KC at a press conference held on April 14  demanded for strict action against those who attacked the Chairperson with the intention of killing him.

A press release was issued stating that, If the relevant agency does not bring the accused to judicial process, the local administration and related agencies will be responsible for the consequences. Similarly, a memorandum has been submitted to the District Administration Office and the District Police Office for taking action against the accused.
