Ambulance Driver Assaulted

An ambulance driver from Sabha Pokhari Rural Municipality was assaulted on December 5, 2024.

The victim, 29-year-old Itab Bahadur Rai, an ambulance driver from Sabha Pokhari Rural Municipality-6, was allegedly attacked while collecting revenue for ambulance services. The accused have been identified as 22-year-old Parbat Rai and 24-year-old Sameer Rai, both residents of the same municipality. The incident occurred near Nayabasti in Sabha Pokhari Rural Municipality-6, according to Vice Chairperson Laxmi Chapagain.

The injured driver is currently undergoing treatment at a local health facility.

In response to the incident, municipal staff issued a statement strongly condemning the assault. However, Inspector Ramkumar Lamichhane confirmed that the victim has not yet filed a formal complaint with the District Police Office.

It is worth noting that the 1998 Declaration on Human Rights Defenders recognizes ambulance drivers as human rights defenders.
