Allegations of Police Inaction in Registering Beating Complaint

A 10-year-old boy studying in class 5 at Saraswati Basic School in Sakhi, Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-9, suffered a broken hand after being beaten by his teacher, Chandrajyoti Sejuwal.

The aggrieved party alleges that both the Area Police Office in Holeri and the District Police Office refused to register a complaint regarding the incident. The father of the victim stated that the teacher subjected his son to beating while he was going to the toilet on August 22, 2024. It is reported that Sejuwal grabbed his son’s head and pushed him, causing him to fall onto a concrete surface and break his left hand. Sejuwal, and the school principal, Narendra D.C., gave the boy’s family Rs 10,000 to keep quiet about the incident. When that amount wasn’t enough, Sejuwal provided more money. The boy had surgery at Nepalgunj Western Hospital, where doctors placed two rods in his arm, according to his father. Resham Bahadur reported that the police have refused to register the complaint even after two months of the incident. He visited the Area Police Office in Holeri and the District Police Office multiple times, but the police still have not filed the complaint. Additionally, Inspector Rohit Kumar Shahi, who refused to register the complaint at the Area Police Office, Holeri, has now been transferred to the District Police Office. However, even upon his arrival at the District Police Office, Inspector Shahi told Resham that the application would not be accepted and sent him back.

Inspector Rohit Kumar Shahi of the District Police Office stated that they cannot register the complaint as it is an irresponsible statement. He mentioned that the teacher had already covered all the medical expenses.
