Aggrieved Party Complains About Receiving Threats Following Arrest of Accused of Rape

The aggrieved party complained that the accused party has threatened them after the police arrested 20-year-old Hemnarayan Mehata of Dewangunj Rural Municipality-2 on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl.

The victim’s 35-year-old mother informed INSEC representative on May 12 that her daughter was raped by Hemnarayan Mehta on April 17. She further stated that upon filing a complaint against Mehta at the District Police Office on April 18, the accused party including his father, 50, and maternal uncle,40, threatened them asserting that it would not be nice if Hemnarayan goes to jail.

Additionally, the victim herself told INSEC that the accused had threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

DSP Nabin Krishna Bhandari of the District Police Office said that the accused was arrested on 18 April on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim. He added that the aggrieved party did not inform the police about the threat during the primary investigation of the rape incident.

Dr. Shreya Pangeni said that the medical examination of the victim was done on April 18 at the District Hospital.
