Acute Crisis of Medicine in Health Organizations

There has been an acute shortages of medicines in District’s health organizations.

The supply in medicines have been obstructed in health institutions  since last year’s blockade.

The government have adopted a policy to provide 40 types of medicine from health posts, 50 types of medicines from primary health posts and 70 types of medicines from District Hospital at free of costs however the shortages continues.

Recently, there has been increase in viral fever patients in the district and they are facing difficulties due to the lack of medicines said health posts in charge Binod Kunwar. He added that the district health office have failed to provide adequate medicine to the health posts.

Health posts incharge Madan Mahara said that they are not able to distribute even iron capsule to the pregnant women due to its shortages.

“We are compelled to ask patients to buy medicine which are normally free”, said Dr Sashi Kandel.

RRT focal person Santosh Pandey of District Health Office of Baitadi said that the problem is due to the less supply as per demand. He added that the crisis started from last year. The District Health Office has opened tender to initiate medicine buying process however it will take at least two months  according to Dr Gun Raj Awasthi, chief of District Health Office.
