Accused Sentenced to Nine Years Imprisonment for Crime of Rape
Bardiya District Court sentenced 25-year-old Baburam Sonaha of Geruwa Rural Municipality-3 to nine years imprisonment for the crime of raping an 18-year-old girl.
The bench of District Court Judge Dalluram Chaudhary on November 11, 2024, sentenced the accused to nine years imprisonment along with a compensation of Rs 50,000, and Rs 1,800 to the victim’s relief fund, according to Information Officer Amrita KC. The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Baniyanbhar on 27 January 2019 alleging that Sonaha had raped the victim on the same day. He was absconding after the sentence was decided.
The health examination of the victim was done on January 27, 2019, at Bardiya Hospital, Gulariya.
