Accused Sentenced to 18 Years Imprisonment for Crime of Rape
The district court has sentenced 19-year-old Sanjib Nepali from Barahtal Rural Municipality-5, Surkhet to 18 years in prison for raping a 16-year-old girl. Suresh Malla, the Information Officer of the District Court informed INSEC that on August 12, 2024, the bench of District Court Judge Bhishmaraj Prasai found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in prison. Additionally, he was fined Rs 700,000 and ordered to pay Rs 100,000 in compensation to the victim.
The aggrieved party filed a complaint with the District Police Office on December 26, alleging that the accused raped the victim on December 25, 2023. The police arrested the accused on December 26 and registered a case against him on the charge of rape through the Government Attorney’s office on January 19, 2024. On January 21, the District Court ordered the accused to be remanded in custody for a preliminary investigation.
The health examination of the victim was done on 26 December at the Bheri Hospital.
