Accused Sentenced to 18 years and Nine Months Imprisonment for Crime of Rape
The District Court sentenced 33-year-old Balkrishna Bhandari, a resident of Sindhupalchowk’s Tripurasundari Rural Municipality-4, Garatol, currently residing in a rented room in Panchkhaal Municipality-5, to 18 years and 9 months in prison for raping a 39-year-old woman with mental disabilities. After the aggrieved party filed a complaint against Bhandari, alleging that he had raped the victim on March 25, 2023, the police arrested the accused on the same day.
The bench of District Court Chief Judge Rajendra Nepal sentenced the accused to 18 years and 9 months imprisonment on April 21, 2024, with the judgment being verified on September 5. The District Court also ordered the accused to deposit Rs 21,000 into the victim’s relief fund and pay Rs 50,000 in compensation to the victim.
