Accused Sentenced to 11 Years Imprisonment for Trafficking

The District Court sentenced 40-year-old Fulmaya Shrestha, also known as Pramila, of Byas Municipality-3, to 11 years of imprisonment for trafficking a 23-year-old woman.  She was also fined with Rs 60,000 and ordered to pay Rs 40,000 in compensation to the victim.

Registrar Keshav Paudel of the District Court informed that the bench of Kamalraj Bista on 5 June gave the following verdict and additionally, ordered to seize Rs 87,000 found in the hotel belonging to the accused. Furthermore, an additional six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 were imposed for her repeated offense.

A 23-year-old woman filed a complaint against the accused at the District Police Office on 11 October, 2022 alleging that the accused had repeatedly pressured her to be involved in sexual acts with the costumers who visit Friendship Restaurant and Lodge in Byas Municipality-12, Ghasikuwa. She added that the accused pressured her last time on the night of 11 October , 2022. The victim had been working as a cleaner in the hotel since January 2022.

A case was registered against the accused in the District Court on 31 October 2022 through the District Public Prosecutor’s office as per the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2007. The accused was subsequently sent to the District Jail for pre-trial detention on 1 November.

The health examination of the victim was done on October 11, 2022 at Damauli Hospital.
