Accused of Killing Arrested

Police arrested nine people on May 22, 2022, accusing them of beating and killing Chhata Shahi, 61, of Yangchu in Kharpunath Rural Municipality-5. He was killed near the local level election vote counting centre.

The arrested ones are Pithindra Shahi, 24, Babar Shahi, 22, Mohan Jung Shahi, 26, Kali Bahadur Shahi, 24, Jayendra Shahi (A), 28, Jayendra Shahi (B), 22, Jayaraj Shahi, 27, and Abisar Shahi, 24, and Bal Bahadur Shahi, 30.

Rajendra Shahi, son of the deceased had filed a complaint of attempt to murder at the District Police Office on May 16, informed DSP Krishna Raj Ojha. He also mentioned that since the accused were absconding, it took some time to arrest them however the police has successfully arrested all of them.

According to DSP Ojha, Shahi, was injured in a clash at the polling station of Kharpunath on May 13 and he died while undergoing treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College, Banke.

Sagar Shahi, son of the deceased also alleged that along with the deceased, Mandir Singh Aidi, 35, and Nabin Aidi, 18, of the same place were also injured.

All the injured were brought to the District Hospital, Humla on April 16 for treatment. Sagar also informed that his father was referred out of the district on May 15 after he could not be treated at the district hospital in Humla.

The Humla District Committee of the CPN-UML had issued a press release on May 18 condemning the incident. A statement issued by Humla District Vice-Chairperson Dabal Rawat and Secretary Tirtharaj Bohara demanded legal action against those involved in the incident.

DSP Ojha informed that the investigation has started by arresting the accused in the incident.

One of the injured, Nabin,  is undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Humla and Mandhir Singh was treated at Nepalgunj Medical College and has been discharged on May 20.
