Judge Hariprasad Sharma Upadhyay of District Court Mahottara has detained Dr. Pankaj Chaudhary, Ramgopalpur Rural Municipality, for trial for the charge of dowry and domestic violence on January 6, 2023.

Neha, Aurahi-1, the accused’s wife, applied for a complaint against her husband, Pankaj, at the Mahottari District Court on July 5, 2022, and filed an official complaint on October 21, 2022. She registered a case against dowry in the same court on December 5, 2022.

Neha and Dr.  Pankaj were married on February 27, 2022. She shared a post on Facebook, within seven months of her marriage,  documenting the domestic violence her husband and his family inflicted on her for dowry. She further filed a complaint at the District Police Office Mahottari alleging that Pankaj had left her at her in-laws’ home despite her request to live together. In response, he resorted to violence and demanded a house as a dowry. Also, Neha claims that Pankaj took a dowry of 2.5 million rupees before marriage.

According to lawyer Rinku Yadav, who is advocating on Neha’s behalf, Neha has filed a case against her husband Pankaj and family members for cancellation of bank papers, forgery, domestic violence, dowry, abuse, and discrimination, while her husband Pankaj has filed a divorce case.

Mahottari District Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Gupta and Rinku Kumari Yadav argued on behalf of  Neha, while Vijay Thakur and Shankar Guwaju argued on behalf of Pankaj.
