Accused of Caste Based Discrimination Arrested

Police arrested Tapendra Budha, 28, working at health post Mumra located in Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality-8,  on March 12 on the charge of caste discrimination.

The Ward Chairperson of the same Rural Municipality-9 Narpati Tiruwa, 42, filed a complaint at the District Police Office on March 11 alleging that he was subjected to abusive language on the basis of his caste by the accused on March 10.

Inspector Poshan Thapa informed that the accused was arrested from his home for further investigation.

The Caste-Based Discrimination and Untouchability (Offense and Punishment) Act, 2075, section 5, sub-section 7 (a) and (b) provides that caste discrimination is punishable by two months to three years imprisonment and a fine of NPR 20, 000 to NPR 200000. In addition if the offense is committed by a public officer it is increased by 50%.
