Accused of Beating Arrested
Police have arrested four accused in the incident of beating Laldhan Tamata, 35, of Kharpunath Rural Municipality-3 also the District Chairperson of Utpidit Jatiya Mukti Samaj, affiliated with CPN-UML. They were arrested on May 26, 2022.
Among the arrested ones are Gagan Tamata, 24, Than Tamata, 26, Krishna Tamata, 31, and Jaydan Tamata, 33.
As per Birjan Sunar, a relative of the injured, Tamata was seriously injured and sustained deep wounds in the head when a Nepali Congress cadre beat him up while he was staying at a hotel in Raya village on May 24.
According to DSP Krishna Raj Ojha, the victim lodged a complaint at the District Police Office, Humla on May 25 demanding legal action against people involved in the incident.
Tamata is undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Humla and has been referred to a more advanced hospital on May 26 for further treatment, said Sarita Bohara, Senior Auxiliary Nurse Midwife of the District Hospital.
She added that the district hospital did not have a CT scan so the patient had to be referred out of the district. Sunar, the relative of the injured lamented that they had to stay in the district as he could not get an air ticket on time even though he was referred out of the district.
Relatives have alleged that Nepali Congress cadres were involved in the incident and that the root cause of the incident was a political issue. DSP Ojha said that he would discuss with the four persons involved in the incident based on the victim’s complaint.
