Accused Arrested for Women Trafficking

The Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau arrested Kusum Kandel, 32, of Tadi Rural Municipality-5, Nuwakot, from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9 on November 22 and Maila Lama Tamang, 50, of Chautara Municipality-6, Sindhupalchowk on November 21 for human trafficking. They are accused of trafficking a 30-year-old woman to Kuwait under the pretense of employing a domestic worker through the “free visa, free ticket” scheme, according to SP Bhavesh Rimal of the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau.

SP Rimal reported that the accused had lured the victim with promises of a monthly salary of 120 Kuwaiti Dinars and took 900 Kuwaiti Dinars from her. They allegedly trafficked her to Al Jahra, Kuwait, via Dubai on July 20, 2023. The victim stated that she endured severe labor exploitation and sexual abuse by her employer in Kuwait. She escaped and sought assistance from Kuwaiti police, who helped her obtain travel documents. According to the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau, she returned to Nepal on October 25, 2024, and filed a complaint on November 19, 2024.
