Accused Arrested for Marital Rape
Police arrested 39-year-old Gangadatta Bhatta of Bedakot Municipality-1, Chamfapur on 1 June for the charge of marital rape of his 38-year-old wife.
The victim informed INSEC that she had been living in a rented room with her daughter and working as a laborer in Bhimdatta Municipality-3, Bhansi, for four months after being evicted from her house. She mentioned that her husband used to abuse her daily while under the influence of alcohol and deprived her of sustenance. Additionally, she stated that she had filed a complaint against the accused on 1 June alleging that her husband visited her place under the pretext of meeting their daughter and raped her on 31 May.
Manju KC, the Coordinator of Alpakalin Sewa Kendra (A service center for victims) said that the accused had been beating and verbally abusing the victim for a long time under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, Constable Sapana Airi of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur said that the accused has been arrested on the basis of the complaint and the investigation is going on.
The victim was treated at the Mahakali Provincial Hospital, Kanchanpur on June 2.
