Accused Arrested for Killing Wife
Police arrested 48-year-old Dan Bahadur Rai on October 21, for the charge of setting his 40-year-old wife, Purnakumari Rai of Belka Municipality-8, Dudkhola, on fire by pouring petrol, resulting in her death. The accused set Purnakumari Rai on fire by pouring petrol on her during a domestic dispute on October 8, 2024, and seriously injuring her.
The 19-year-old son of the victim, Embulal Rai, filed a complaint against the accused at the Rampur Area Police Office on October 15. Embulal Rai stated that his injured mother passed away on October 20 while receiving treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. Inspector Umesh Kumar Meheta of the Rampur Area Police Office stated that Dan Bahadur was arrested for investigation while hiding at a relative’s house in Kothu, Belka Municipality-8. He had been absconding after the complaint was filed.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan on October 20. The victim’s family received the body on the same day and performed the last rites in Dudkhola, Belka Municipality-8.
