Accused Arrested for Child Trafficking

Police arrested 22-year-old Saru BK of Lamjung, currently residing in Pokhara Metropolitan City-16, 34-year-old Bhagwati Adhikari from the same area, and 31-year-old Chinese citizen Ji Ming Chen on August 13, 2024. They are accused of attempting to traffic a 14-year-old girl by holding her hostage. Despite the nature of crime being child marriage and kidnapping, the police have reported that they are investigating  the accused primarily for the crime of trafficking.

DSP Basanta Kumar Sharma of the District Police Office Kaski stated that the Chinese citizen and the two other accused were arrested on the charge of arranging the marriage of the child with the Chinese citizen. The victim filed a complaint on August 13, stating that the two women had lured her and arranged her marriage at the Bindhabasini Temple in Pokhara on July 28. According to the police, after the wedding, the girl escaped to Kathmandu the same night after being taken to a lakeside hotel. She returned to Pokhara and filed her complaint on August 13.

The police reported that BK and Adhikari attempted the crime for financial advantage from Chen. The police also informed that Chinese citizen Chen came to Nepal on a 90-day visit visa.
