Accused Arrested for Beating Woman Under Allegation of Witchcraft
Police arrested Baburam Chaudhary, Lahu Chaudhary, Manoj Chaudhary, and Rupa Chaudhary from Gounhiya, Bhajani Municipality-1, on December 19, for allegedly beating and injuring a 26-year-old woman under the accusation of witchcraft.
The aggrieved party verbally informed the Bhajani Area Police Office on December 19 that the accused subjected the victim to beating and injuring the victim claiming she had practiced witchcraft. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused as per Inspector Yuvan Kumar Chaudhary of the Bhajani Area Police Office. The aggrieved party filed a written complaint on December 20 against six individuals for beating the victim under the accusation of witchcraft. Four out of six accused have been arrested and have been sent to the District Police Office, Kailali, for further investigation. Inspector Chaudhary stated that two accused, Jairam Chaudhary and Karan Chaudhary, remain absconding, and the search is ongoing. Chuniram Choudhary, the victim’s husband in a meeting with the INSEC representative said that the accused brutally beat his wife, accusing her of causing disturbance in the family by practicing witchcraft.
The victim is being treated in the ICU of New Life Hospital, Dhangadhi.
