Accused Arrested for Beating Journalist

Police arrested Gokul Bohora and Gautam Saud of Mallekh Rural Municipality-5 on September 4 for the charge of beating journalist Lal Bahadur Chadara, a member of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Accham and resident of Mallekh Rural Municipality-2 on September 2. DSP Ishwari Bhandari of the District Police Office, Achham stated that Journalist Chadara, who attended the Teej program organized by Radio Janapriya FM in Sanfebagar, was Beaten by Bohora and Gautam under the influence of alcohol.

DSP Ishwari Bhandari stated that both the accused were arrested, and the aggrieved party filed a complaint at the District Police Office on September 5 after the accused abused the Journalist Chadara even within the premises of Mallekh Police Station. Chadara, who sustained head and leg injuries from the incident, received treatment at Bandevasani Health Post on September 2.

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Achham, issued a press release on August 20, stating that beating a journalist in a public place over their writing, instead of seeking legal way, is disgraceful and an attack on press freedom. They also demanded action against those responsible for the incident.
