Accusation of Selling Expired Medicine Due to the Lack of Monitoring

The activists of the district have accused that pharmacies of all nine districts of far-western region had sold expired and illicit medicine in last financial year due to the lack of monitoring in pharmacies.

They have accused that 1371 pharmacies are selling illicit medicine in the districts.

The Drug Management Department of Nepalgunj have not monitored such pharmacies from the last few years. Human Rights Activist Prem Saud accused that most of the pharmacies are selling medicine in high price as there is no monitoring.

Pharmacy Inspector Pushpa Rana of Drungs management Department said that operating licence has been provided to the pharmacies to sell only prescribed medicine by the government. He said that due to the lack of staff, the monitoring process has been disrupted. Chief of drugs management department said that most of the pharmacists are selling illicit and expired medicine even though they know that it is illegal.
