Absence of Law Enforcement puts Civil Rights in Shadow, Stakeholders

Chief of National Human Rights Commission Regional Office Janakpur, Subarna Karmacharya stated that the rights of citizens are sidelined in the lack of law enforcement at the interaction program ‘Monitoring the human rights situation of senior citizens’ organized by Commission at Gaighat on March 28.

He stressed the necessity to enforce policy, rules and regulations in order to respect the rights of senior citizens along with the other general people’s rights. He added, In the current situation where the government has been intervening the rights of the citizen for various reasons is being noticed by the commission and is working to stop these sorts of activities.

The participants in the program mentioned about the humiliation that senior citizens had to face in the lack of law enforcement. They complained about the deprivation of facilities and benefits due to the weak policy implementation mechanism of the state.

Secretary General of Senior Citizens Forum Udaipur, Nigam Koirala stated that Even though the government had divided 50 % discount in transportation and treatment to the senior citizen, it has not been implemented properly. He added, the seats allocated for senior citizen in the bus are occupied by the young ones.

They kept the problems of inconvenient distribution procedure of social security program and have been facing problems since they have to give it to the ones who are running family.
