Update of May 25 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 528,848 after additional 8,387 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on May 25, 2021. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 404,887 of the total infected have recovered, and the recovery rate has reached 76.6% along with the 6,404 latest recovered.

According to the Ministry, 22,306 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. Out of the total number of tests conducted on May 25, 38% were diagnosed positive and overall there were 17.8% people diagnosed positive till now. On May 25, 859 people below the age of 19 were diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

Till now, the death toll has reached 6,700 According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 169 people died on May 25. There are 117,261 in isolation. There are more than 500 active cases in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Parsa, Mahottari, Bara, Saptari, Siraha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makwanpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Kaski, Nawalparasi East, Gorkha, Tanahu, Syangja, Myagdi, Dang, Rupandehi, Banke, Palpa, Bardiya, Kapilbastu, Arghakhanchi, Nawalparasi West, Surkhet, Salyan, Dailekh, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi, Doti and Achham.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 75 districts have been following complete or partial prohibition till May 24, 2021, no further information have been received later.

In Province 1,

In Sankhuwasabha, the duration of the prohibitory order has been extended till June 8, 2021. The District Covid Crisis Management Center (DCCMC) meeting held on May 26 extended the prohibition.

In Province 2,

As the number of covid patients with Saptari has increased, a 20-bed covid hospital with an oxygen facility has come into operation at Bhardaha Hospital in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 since May 25. The hospital also has a ventilator. At the Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, there are 18 people in a 25-bed isolation centre with HDU, nine people in a 50-bed isolated medical college and hospital in Rajbiraj, 17 people in a 35-bed Chhinnamasta hospital in Rajbiraj, 28 people in a 30-bed isolated Dharmeshwar Dharapani in Kanchanrup Municipality and 20 people in Hanumannagar Sankani. There are 1,128 people are in home isolation, said Duniyalal Yadav, acting head of the health office.

The bodies of the corona victims who died on May 24 at the Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj have been managed only after 24 hours on May 25. The bodies of a 50-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man who died at 3:30 pm on May 24 at the HDU Isolation Center of the hospital were cremated after 24 hours. According to the religious rituals, those who want to manage the corpses should be given security precautions.

In Parsa, the covid test of those entering Nepal from India has been stopped. The long-running shortage of antigen kits has affected the ongoing tests at the health desk set up by the Birgunj Metropolitan near Shankaracharya Gate. Although more than 25 Nepalis enter Birgunj daily from India through the checkpoint, the covid test could not be conducted due to lack of kits, said Samula Ansari, in-charge of the health desk.

In Bagmati Province,

In Kathmandu, the prohibition has been extended for one more week. Kathmandu’s Assistant Chief District Officer Umakanta Adhikari informed that a one-week prohibition order has been extended due to the increase in the infection rate. In the added prohibition order, vegetable, fruit, milk, meat and gas shops will be allowed to open till 9 am. However, it was decided to close grocery stores and department stores.

In Rusuwa, the Naukunda rural municipality has stopped the movement from one ward to another after the increased spread of Covid-19. According to Sirjana Lama, vice-chairperson of Naukunda rural municipality, 12 people have been infected in Gosaikunda, 49 in Amachhodingmo, 66 in Kalika, five in Uttargaya and 38 in Naukunda. Of them, nine are in organizational and 161 are in home isolation.

In Gandaki Province,

In Kaski, the OPD (outpatient) service at the Western Regional Hospital under the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences has been closed indefinitely since May 26. According to the director of the foundation, Prof. Dr. Bharat Bahadur Khatri, the Ministry of Health and Population has written to the hospital to arrange treatment for the infected people of Covid-19. The Gandaki provincial government had recommended the federal government build Covid Hospital. The hospital has 42 isolation beds, 17 ICU beds, seven ventilator beds and 16 HDU beds for the treatment of Covid patients.

In Karnali Province,

In Surkhet, the District Administration Office Surkhet has requested all the locals of the district to purchase PCR and extraction kits and make them available to the state hospital. Chief District Officer Chhavilal Rijal said that the locals have been requested to provide PCR and extraction kits five days ago due to the lack of kits and an increasing number of people coming for Covid testing.

In Sudur Paschim Province,

In Dadeldhura, Amargadhi Municipality-3 has been sealed due to the increase in the number of covid infections. According to Ward Chairman Govinda Bohara, all the participants in the wedding ceremony in Chamsal Rural Municipality of Ward No. 3 have been urged not to hold weddings and banquets in all the shops, means of transportation and the ward till further orders. He also said that preparations are being made to bring health workers to the ward for drug management and PCR testing of suspects in the health institutions of the ward.

In Baitadi, the entire service of Shivanath rural municipality has been suspended after the covid infection was confirmed in nine people including the people’s representative. Kusma Chand, the vice-chairperson of the village, said that the services provided by the rural municipality were stopped after the covid was confirmed in the rural municipality chairperson, vice-chairperson and seven other employees.

In Darchula, all services in Duhu rural municipality have been suspended for 10 days except for essential services. Information Technology Officer Birendra Raj Joshi said that all the services except the essential services have been shut down in Duhu rural municipality from May 26 to May 30 to prevent the spread of covid at the community level.
