A total of 702 incidents of use of small arms occurred from January to December 2011 directly affecting 907 people. Out of them, 248 were killed and 659 were injured. Out of 907 casualties, 27 per cent were killed and 73 per cent were injured.

The active Surveillance System on IED/UXO/Mine incidents in Nepal run by INSEC is designed to provide reliable information about Explosion incidents to the Mine Action community of Nepal, in order to improve Mine/IED/UXO Risk Education, Victim Assistance and Advocacy.

Title: Report on Casualties of Victim-activated Explosions (Jan-Mar 2009)
Summary
From January to March 2009, INSEC Surveillance System identified 15 new casualties from 7 incidents caused by mines and improvised explosive devices. Of these, one person was killed and 14 were injured. IED/UXO/Mine casualty rate has decreased in comparison to the first three months of last year. The number of casualties decreased by 35% (15, down from 23 in 2008) and the number of incidents decreased by 53% (7, down from 15 in 2008). The decrease in casualty rate is due to fewer no. of incidents in Tarai. 12 out of 15 incidents had occurred in Tarai region in this period last year while 4 out of 7 incidents occurred in Tarai this year. 53% of the casualties had their incidents in Tarai.
