| 1. Peace Building Campaign- DanidaHUGOU
After the success of Pilot phase of the Peace Building Campaign in Surkhet and Bardiya districts from February 2003 to January 2004, a full phased project was implemented from July 2004 to June 2006 with wider coverage of eight VDCs each in the same districts with support of DanidaHUGOU. The project was later extended up to 31 August 2006 on a no-cost basis. Currently, with the same support, the Peace Building Campaign (PBC) is being implemented in 6 VDCs each of Achham and Dadeldhura districts of Far-western Region, Dailekh of Mid-western region and has been continued as the 2nd phase in 8 VDCs of Bardiya and Surkhet districts of Mid-Western Region from September 2006.
The development objective of the PBC is to establish sustainable peace through protection and promotion of human rights and the immediate objective is to promote and strengthen collective engagement of civil society actors and political forces to create an enabling environment in which people live without fear and are able to take part in decisions and processes that affect their lives. The Campaign has two district and VDC level outputs: i) Political actors and local CSO alliances/networks, including professional organisations, engaged in constructive conflict management at the local level; and ii) Capacity of community people enhanced to lead local level peace building initiatives focusing on rehabilitation and reconciliation.

2. Conflict Mitigation through Empowerment of Local Communities supported by EC (CMP I Macro project)
"Conflict Mitigation through Empowerment of Local Communities" is being implemented through INSEC Mid-western regional office in six districts Surkhet, Bardiya, Dang, Banke, Jajarkot and Pyuthan. This program covers a total of 24 VDCs of six districts (4 VDCs of each district). This program is being implemented for two years starting form January 2006.The main objective of the project is to contribute to conflict mitigation by enhancing the capabilities of the local communities in two aspects. Firstly, by substantially increasing their level of awareness on issues of HR and peace building so that the degree of their confidence in dealing with the conflicting situation at local levels is enhanced. Secondly, by bringing improvements in the socio-economic condition and access to basic services, especially in favour of the vulnerable sections of the communities. The target groups are the local communities of the selected VDCs, with special focus on Ex-kamaiyas, dalits and landless people. The existing CBOs will be the means through which main activities of the project are being carried out.

3. Campaign for Conflict Mediation & Peace Building supported by EC (EIDHR Micro project)
"The Campaign for Conflict Mediation and Peace Building" project has been implemented in four Village Development Committees (VDCs), namely Chhaulahi, Gadhawa, Laxmipur and Saudiyar of Dang district in Mid-western Region from January 2006 for a two- year period. It aims to raise people's awareness on human rights, international humanitarian laws and peace building, organize the community people into groups and prepare peace facilitators, build up their conflict mediation capabilities and mobilize them for conflict mediation and dialogue and hence contribute to peaceful transformation of the ongoing conflict at community level. Local community people, especially the victims of the conflict and their family, CBOs, HR activists, conflicting parties, public officials are the target groups of this program. |
4. Democratization of Political Parties in Nepal
The project "Democratization of Political Parties in Nepal" funded by National Endowment for Democracy (NED) aims to promote internal democratization of political parties and inclusion of disadvantage communities in the political parties and state mechanisms through lobby, advocacy, interaction, workshop, seminar, mass mobilization, and publication dissemination on the issues of inclusive democracy and human rights. Bargaining capacity of the disadvantaged people to assert their rights will be enhanced through training, workshop and conferences to bring them into national polity. It is envisaged that this project will play a facilitating role and encourage the political parties to become more democratic, inclusive and participatory and efficient in decision making process. The goal of the project is towards establishing efficient, equitable, transparent and accountable state governance on the one hand and encouraging participation of disadvantage group of people through capacity building on the other hand. This is a 13 month project that started in December 2006.

5. Assistance to IDP Returnees in Mid and Far-western regions of Nepal
The essence of the project is to assist the IDP returnees in ensuring sustainable livelihood at the places of their origin by providing support in four main areas viz. support for physical materials and equipments, agricultural production, drinking water and sanitation and facilitation/coordination for safe return of children and other family members to homelands. The project will be implemented from August 2007 to May 2008 and is supported by the Save the Children-US. It is being implemented in all 15 districts of Mid-western and 9 districts of Far-western regions. |
6. Integrated Assistance to IDPs, Returnees and Other Conflict-Affected Population in Mid-west region
This project aims to facilitate the process of rehabilitation of IDPs, the returnees and other conflict victims in 6 districts of the Mid-western region by identifying the IDPs, assessing their needs and creating environment for ensuring better livelihood for them by organizing various interaction programs with all concerned stakeholders in the region. The six districts selected for the project are Jumla, Mugu, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Bardiya and Surkhet and the INSEC district representatives (DRs) of all these districts are mobilized for providing support to the district project teams. In each of the district teams, local Human Rights defenders, recently trained by INSEC through a 3-month 'School of Human Rights' program have been appointed as the field assessment officers. The project is supported by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and is of seven and a half months' duration. |
7. Monitoring Children's Rights Situation in Nepal- 33 districts
With support from UNICEF, this project seeks to monitor and collect data on Child Rights in 33 districts of the country in all 5 development regions. The 75 INSEC District Representatives (DRs) are mobilized for collecting and sending information from all parts of the country. The previous phase of the project is over and the new phase has started from July 2007 and will end in June 2008. |
8. Joint FAST Project with HURDEC supported by European Commission (EC)
FAST is the early warning project of Swiss Peace, based in Berne, Switzerland. 1n 1998 the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation(SDC) assigned Swiss Peace to set up a political early warning system for early identification of impending armed conflict and political crisis situations. FAST collects the data on HR violations in the conflicting countries through its local information network. HURDEC, a Kathmandu based organization is the Local Information Network of Swiss Peace in Nepal and INSEC is the Field Monitor. INSEC five regional offices send more than 28 HR violation cases every week and from central office this events are sent to HURDEC regularly. HURDEC is also sends this information to Swiss peace every week. Swiss Peace is publishes a risk assessment after analyzing the events sent by Local Information Network Office quarterly.

9. FK Exchange Program
INSEC is coordinating the South-South exchange program supported by Fredskorpset (FK) Norway, a Human Rights organization in Norway aimed at offering working exposures to Human Rights defenders around the world. Under the exchange program INSEC is currently coordinating the exchange of 7 participants from 6 NGOs; INSEC, Odhikar, People's Watch, Centre for Human Rights and Development (CHRD), Community Trust Fund (CTF) and Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-Asia) of Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Thailand respectively, among each other for a 10-month period under the program. |
10. HR Treaty Monitoring Programme-DanidaHUGOU
This project is a joint effort of the Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Committee (HRTMCC), a coalition of 47 Human Rights organizations in the country. The coalition started in 2003 and INSEC as the secretariat has been coordinating this project since its inception. This collective effort is at the second phase (July 2006- April 2008) with the last phase producing some significant results in the field of Human Rights. There are 7 sub-committees in the coalition under each of the 'big six' treaties plus the covenant on migrant workers. Each of the sub-committees comprise of several NGOs depending on the area of work of each of these member NGOs. The mode of implementation of this project has been based on allotting specific authorities and responsibilities to specific sub-committees to execute particular actions and activities. |
