Rights bodies condemn attack on NHRC vehicle

Human Rights Organizations of Banke have condemned the attack on vehicle of National Human Rights Commission, while monitoring the demonstration organized by Religious Pressure Group, on February 7.

 

A joint press release issued by chiefs of various organizations including Coordinator of INSEC Mid-Western Regional Office Bhola Mahat, Chairperson of Appellate Court Bar Association Sunil Kumar Shrestha, Coordinator of Social Harmony Committee Satish Chandra Agrawal, Sushil Lakhe of Advocacy Forum and Mohamadi Siddhiki of Fatima Foundation condemned the incident.

 

The statement issued after emergency meeting held at INSEC Mid-Western Regional Office expressed sorrow over the incident and urged the local administration to book the perpetrators.

 

The vehicle of National Rights Watchdog, which was monitoring the demonstration organized by Religious Pressure Group against the American President Barrack Obama alleging that a multinational company Nike hurt the religious sentiment of Muslim Community, was vandalized by the protestors.

 

The protestors also burn the effigy of American President before submitting Memorandum to Prime Minister through Chief District Officer.

 

Windows of the vehicle were smashed in the incident. The demonstrators also thrashed Chairperson of Nepal Muslim Society Development Awareness Centre, Mohammed Sher Bagwan, 40, who has asked the protestors not to attack vehicles including the vehicle of NHRC. The victim underwent treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College.
