Update of January 8 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 264,159 after additional 554 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on January 8, 2020. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 257,229 of the total infected have recovered. On January 8, the rate of recovery reached 97.4% along with the 585 latest recovered. The ministry reported that 5,058 people are being treated. Out of which 1,561 are in home isolation, 182 are being treated in ICU, and 37 are being treated with the support of the ventilators. Till now, the death toll has reached 1,909. According to the Ministry, 5,021 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. There aren’t any active cases in Solukhumbu, Dolpa, Mugu and Salyan, while Kathmandu has more than 500 active cases.
