Update of January 5 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 262,784 after additional 522 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on January 5, 2020. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 255,666 of the total infected have recovered. On January 5, the rate of recovery reached 97.3% along with the 578 latest recovered. The ministry reported that 5,225 people are being treated. Out of which 1,714 are in home isolation, 203 are being treated in ICU, and 44 are being treated with the support of the ventilators. Till now, the death toll has reached 1,893. According to the Ministry, 4,551 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. There aren’t any active cases in Solukhumbu and Mugu, while Kathmandu has more than 500 active cases.

In Sudurpaschim Province,

According to Kanchanpur representative Komal Niranjan Bhat, some employees of Shuklaphanta Municipality have been diagnosed positive with COVID-19 after which the municipality has been closed from January 4 for six days. Chief Administrative Officer of Shuklaphanta Municipality, Visan Singh Thapa, said that the municipality is closed for the swab test all the employees of the office.
