Update of December 29 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 259,584 after additional 708 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on December 29, 2020. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 251,312 of the total infected have recovered. On December 29, the rate of recovery reached 96.8% along with the 731 latest recovered. The ministry reported that 6,396 people are being treated. Out of which 2,958 are in home isolation, 228 are being treated in ICU, and 40 are being treated with the support of the ventilators. Till now, the death toll has reached 1,840. According to the Ministry, 6,135 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. There aren’t any active cases in Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Mugu, and Rukum West while Kathmandu has more than 500 active cases.

In Sudur Pradesh Province,

According to Baitadi representative Nari Badu, the office of Surnaya rural municipality has been closed from December 29 to January 5 after an employee of Surnaya rural municipality was diagnosed positive with COVID-19 virus. According to a notice issued by the chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, Madan Raj Pant, on December 29, all the activities of the rural municipality have been suspended for a week. Chief Administrative Officer Pant said that the rural municipality has been closed till January 5 due to testing of samples of other employees working in the office.
