Update of 28 April Regarding Corona Virus Infection

In the regular press meet held by the Ministry of Health and Population, Spokesperson Dr Bikash Devkota informed that two more persons are found corona infected which tolls of 54 persons infected by the coronavirus.

The sample test conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory in Teku, Kathmandu has confirmed coronavirus infection in two more people from Rautahat. The swabs of 24 and 35 years old male staying at quarantine were brought to Kathmandu for testing. 24 years old male of Brindaban Municipality was returned from Kolkota, India and had stayed for 14 days at Chandrapur quarantine. Similarly, another 35 years old male of Dewani Gonahi Municipality was also staying at quarantine. After found corona infection both are admitted at Narayani Hospital, Birjung on isolation.

Provincial Reports

In Province 1, the Provincial government has started preparation to move the quarantine of Miklajung Rural Municipality – 4 within a week. The quarantine is being conducted by the provincial government in Tandi with collaboration with Nepal Army’s Suryadal Battalion will be shifted to the Purbanchal University in Gothgaun, Sundarharaicha Municipality. Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai has initiated discussion with all concerned party on this issue. Chief of Suryadal Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Raghu Paudel said that the quarantine will be conducted after shifting to Gothgaun as it was not suitable to run at Tandi. In case of death of corona infected person a cremation management team has been formed in Morang for cremation. Since the number of the infected person is increasing at Province 1, District Police Office, Morang has kept the management team ready and standby.

Construction and development work has come to halt because of lockdown. As per the business personnel, there is no sufficient supply of construction materials. As the lockdown period has been extended no one has been found to distribute additional relief. Due to this, the extremely poor and the workers have difficulty earning a living.

Locals of Harinagar Rural Municipality-2, Bhutaha, Sunsari has returned the rice got as a relief to ward office on 28 April alleging that they had stomach ache and diarrhoea after eating that rice. Md Naushad Siddiki said that they returned that relief material because of its poor quality. Rural Municipality chairperson Gafar Ansari accepted the complaint received and said an investigation will be conducted on the issue.

In Province 2, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire, informed two more people of Rautahat district have been confirmed with Corona Virus (COVID-19) infection at a media briefing on April 28 through PCR testing.

A 24 years old man of Brindaban Municipality-9, Bhusaha and 35 years old male of Dewani Gonahi Municipality -1 of Rautahat district has been confirmed with coronavirus infection after test conducted at National Laboratory, Teku, Kathmandu. The 24 years old man was returned to the home on March 30 from Calcutta, India and has been staying at quarantine since April 4. Similarly, 35 years old infected man was also returned home from on April 16 from New Delhi, India. He was kept in quarantine along with his family after he reached home.

The Ministry of Social Development has sent a team of Medical doctors and lab technicians. Ministry also sends two teams to both municipalities for contact tracing. Secretary of Ministry of Social Development Dr Ghimire said provincial government and security forces have started searching, how many people entered to eight districts of Nepal from the open border? How they are staying? Are they staying ta quarantine or not? Is their RDT and PCR test conducted or not? on high priority.

The people of Kanchanrup Municipality-9, Saptari has padlocked the ward office on April 28 alleging irregularities and bias on the relief distribution. They padlocked the ward office and relief material stored room stating relief that poor should be given was provided to rich and it was biased. Ward Chairperson Laxman Yadav said relief was going to be distributed to 500 households after the decision of all-party committee and ward office was padlocked by persons asking the equal share of the amount sent by the government as a relief to poor people.

 In Bagmati Province,  a committee had been formed to investigate the theft of goods at Corona Special Hospital in Chitwan. After the footage captured on CC camera on April 27 of good being stolen three members team has been formed on April 28 under the coordination of hospital member Raju Paudel. Nepali Congress Chitwan has handed over a memorandum to Chief District Officer Narayan Bhattarai on April 28 to immediately suspend the hospital staffs Ajay Baral, Fanindra Khanal and Surya Tiwari who were seen stealing goods on CC camera footage. Hospital management of BK Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital informed that the OPD service of the hospital is resumed from April 28 which was closed since April 23.

INSEC Bagmati Province office, Hetuda has handed over the various health items to Chief Administrative Officer Chiranjibi Timilsina of Changunarayan Municipality on April 28.

In Gandaki Province, the Council of Ministers meeting of the Gandaki Province government on April 28 has decided to form a Gandaki Province Health Insurance Coordinating Committee and allocate budget to construct intensive care units in 11 districts of Province.

A woman admitted at Corona Hospital of Prabat district has escaped from the hospital. The woman from Kusma Municipality-3 came to fever clinic on April 28 was shown symptoms of coronavirus and as per to doctors’ advice she was admitted and kept at isolation to take a throat swab to conduct PCR test at Pokhara. She escaped from the hospital immediately after the admission and security personnel found her at Kusma-Gyadi bridge and re-admitted at the hospital.

In Province 5, to fight against coronavirus Province 5 government have decided to mobilize doctors of Ayurveda and alternate medicine. The Province 5 Ministry of Social Development stated to increase immunity against coronavirus they are going to mobilize Ayurveda medicine. A case has been filed against Rajesh Rice Mill, Nawalparasi for distributing substandard relief material for workers and poor family affected by lockdown. The people with low finance and income of Ramgram Municipality-11 had thrown the distributed relief material at the main gate of municipality saying that the rice distributed by the Ramgam Municipality was rotten and not consumable.

In Karnali Province, after there was lack of RDT kits to examine the students visiting Dolpa for Monk Education from India, INSEC referred the local government after which a team has arrived at Dolpo Budhha and Chhakartangsong rural municipality with RDT kits. Due to lockdown, the distribution and need of foodgrains have increased five times more than normal days which may lead to scarcity of food-grains, informed Chandra Bahadur Khadka of Food Management and Trade Service Company Rukum (West). The regular vaccination program has resumed in Rukum (West).

In Sudur Paschim Province, though the provincial government has instructed everyone entering Bajhang from Dhangadi and Kathmandu, they have ignored the instruction and have gone back home. More than 800 people of Baitadi’s Puchaudi Municipality staying in the Indian quarantine across Mahakali river from past one month have not been rescued back by the government. Since after getting them back, they will again be kept in quarantine, every local level has built quarantine for them but the government has not shown any interest in bringing them back.
