Update of 21 May Regarding Corona Virus Infection
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, in Nepal, there are 457 people suffering from corona virus infection and three have lost their lives. The four patients being treated at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital were discharged on 21 May 2020. Till date 49 coronavirus patients have recovered. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the local levels to prohibit entering the valley unless it is for emergency works.
Provincial Reports
In Province 1, there are 84 people suffering from coronavirus infection. Among them, there are 10 females and 74 males. On 21 May, additional eight cases were discovered from Kechanakawal Rural Municipality’s Laxmi Prasad Devkota Secondary School’s quarantine. These people belonged to the age- 17,18,18,20,20,23,52 and 55. These people have returned from India. Out of the total number of infected people, 54 are being treated and 26 have recovered. Till 21 May 3,922 swabs have been collected out of which 84 resulted positive.
In Province 2, there have been 7,242 swabs collection till date out of which 137 resulted positive and 1,770 are pending. Till date 5,844 RDT have been conducted out of which 5,832 were negative and 12 were positive. There are 6,098 people staying in quarantine. There are 5,175 people living in home quarantine. There are 138 people in isolation. The quarantine built in Dhanusha’s Sabaila Municipality- 12 Shree Fakirchand Gami Secondary School was found not meeting any criteria of proper quarantine. There were only two toilets for 61 people living in the quarantine. People living in the quarantine are not getting good quality food. Poor food quality is making everyone sick in the quarantine. Lunch is provided only after midday. When the people complaint regarding their problem to the ward chairperson, he scolded them instead of solving their problem. They do not have provision of masks, gloves and sanitizers. When the Quarantine Health Coordinator Ram Dular Yadav was questioned about the condition of the quarantine, he replied saying those people need not be treated as hospitalized patients.
In Bagmati Province, it has been decided that the quarantine in Chitwan will have a group of three Public Health graduates or post graduates’ team to collect swabs for corona virus test. This group will be conducting RDT as well. There are 23 people in quarantine and 10 in isolation. Both the 27-year old police man and 25-year old woman detected with corona from Bhaktapur have been discharged.
In Gandaki Province, 1,520 swabs have been collected out of which 1,137 were negative and 380 were pending. Till date 6,998 RDT have been conducted in the province. The HIV infected people are provided ART (Antiretroviral therapy) and nutritious food in their houses.
In Province 5, there have been 10,562 RDT test and 14,760 are in quarantine. The 41-year-old man of Gulmi Madane Rural Municipality died during his treatment at Crimson Hospital of Tilotama Municipality on 21 May 2020. With this death, there are two cases of death due to coronavirus infection in the province. The eight corona infected people including four children from Kapilbastu Maharajgunj Municipality have not been taken for treatment. According to the locals, they have not been provided even with sanitizers till now. As per the health coordinator of the municipality, the authorities are preparing for the management.
In Karnali Province, the Karnali Health Science Academy Teaching Hospital Jumla has established a 120 bedded isolation hospital with ventilators. The 42 people rescued from India on 21 May have given their swab samples for PCR. The 436 locals of Salyan District’s Bangad Kupinde Municipality have entered through Babai border without health checkup. Due to lack of testing kit, only 60 people from Kapurkot border have given their RDT.
In Sudur Paschim Province, after the Crisis Management Centre’s meeting with the nine local level’s people’s representatives demanded, the borders have been closed and the people have been rescued.
