Update of 19 May Regarding Corona Virus Infection

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, on 19 May additional 27 cases have been diagnosed for corona virus infection. These cases were found in the mentioned districts:

  1. Jhapa: 9
  2. Morang: 1
  3. Sunsari: 1
  4. Sarlahi: 2
  5. Kathmandu: 3
  6. Bhaktapur: 1
  7. Lalitpur:1
  8. Makwanpur: 1
  9. Ramechhap:1
  10. Sindhuli: 1
  11. Lamjung: 1
  12. Kapilbastu: 4
  13. Nawalparasi West: 1

With this there are 402 people infected with corona virus infection in Nepal. Out of them 340 are males and 62 are females. The infection has spread in 36 districts now and 37 have recovered. According to the spokesperson of the Ministry, now locals and foreigners without symptoms can also get RDT or PCR test. They have access to paid test but have to followed the criteria of the Public health laboratory and maintain privacy.

Provincial Reports

In Province 1, on 19 May, 11 people were diagnosed with coronavirus infection. Nine from Jhapa Kechanakawaka, one from Itahari sub-metropolitan and one from Morang’s Patharishanishware were diagnosed. There are 54 infected people in Province 1 and the infection has been seen in seven districts of the Province. Following is the number according to the districts:

  1. Udaypur: 33
  2. Jhapa: 12
  3. Morang: 4
  4. Sunsari: 2
  5. Khotang: 1
  6. Dhakuta: 1
  7. Bhojpur: 1

Out of them, 18 have been discharged. Among those 18, 15 were from Udaypur, two from Jhapa and one from Bhojpur. Seven of them were Indian citizens.

In Province 2, there were two new cases reported in Sarhali on 19 May 2020. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a 34-year-old man from Bagmati Municipality-9 and a 31-year-old man from Hariban Municipality- 10 New Road were diagnosed with the infection. The 34-year-old man has been living in Kathmandu whereas the other one will be sent to Janakpur for treatment.

In Bagmati Province,

Test update till 19 May are as follows:

Thakre Rural Municipality-7 Jungekhola of Dhading has been sealed after a corona patient was diagnosed on 19 May 2020. There are 16 people being treated at Lalitpur’s Patan Hospital’s isolation ward. Out of them, five patients of COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU. Kathmandu Metropolitan has requested Government of Nepal, Home Ministry and District Administration Office to seal all the entrance borders during the lockdown.

In Gandaki Province,

Test update till 19 May are as follows:

  • Negative Polymer Change Reaction (PCR)= 1,081
  • Pending Polymer Change Reaction (PCR)= 247
  • Number of Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT)= 6,998

In Province 5, Banke’s Narainapur has an additional 12 cases of coronavirus infection. With this, there are 59 cases of coronavirus infection in Narainapur. All of them are the locals of Narainapur Rural Municipality- 5. The coronavirus positive diagnosed 59 people on 18 and 19 May are staying with other people in the same quarantine.

In Karnali Province, after a 35-year-old man from Aathbiskot Municipality-1 was diagnosed corona positive through his nasal swab test on 16 May, he has been moved to the district head quarter’s isolation ward. In the RDT conducted on 17 people staying at the quarantine of Humla District’s Namkha Rural Municipality-5 on 16 May, one reports resulted suspicious after which the swab has been brought to Surkhet on 19 May via helicopter. Since the case of coronavirus infection has been increasing in Rukum West, the local level of the district has made a provision of 14 days quarantine to anyone coming back from India or any other countries immediately after they enter the district. They will be sent back from the quarantine only after attending a PCR test. Relief has been distributed to 183 families of Chandannath Municipality-2.

In Sudur Paschim Province, after the death of one man staying in the quarantine of Nepalgunj, swab of seven others from Turmakhand Rural Municipality of Achham staying in the same quarantine has been sent for test. In a meeting of Darchula District’s Crisis Management Centre held on 19 May, all the people’s representatives have demanded to rescue the Nepalese stranded in the border.
