Update of 19 April regarding Corona Virus Infection

In a press conference held by the Ministry of Health and Population, 29,537 have been tested. The PCR has tested 8,081 and RDT has tested 21,486. According to the spokesperson of Dr Bikash Devkota, 5,180 are in quarantine, nationwide and 103 are in isolation. Till 19 April 31 people have been detected with corona infection. National Muslim Commission has requested to give the information of the ‘Jamatis’ in Nepal to the Chief of Jamati within two days. After 12 in Udaypur and three in Parsa have been detected with corona infection.

Provincial Reports

In Province 1, the RDT and PCR has tested 2,668 people. On 19 April, 315 men and 72 women were tested. Out of them 13 men were tested positive. They are being treated at the Koshi Hospital. Through RDT 2,281 have been tested and one woman and three men were tested positive. In Province 1, there is quarantine with capacity of 4,459. Till 19 April, 78 woman and 598 men are in quarantine. There are 704 staying in home quarantine. There are six woman and 17 men in isolation. There are 704 PPE in the Province. After 13 people living in a mosque were found infected with corona, Province 1 has been testing rapidly. Suspects are kept in quarantine.

In Province 2, 579, swabs were tested and 536 reports were negative and four tested positive. The remaining 39 reports are pending. RDT test has been used on 2,400 people and 2,393 reports are negative and six reports have tested positive. Five swabs out of those six were tested negative and one report is pending. There are 1,238 people in the quarantine and 2,065 are in home quarantine. All eight provinces have isolation with 220 bed capacity. There are 21 people going through the treatment. The provincial government has declared second round of relief distribution on 19 April. The cabinet has decided on giving Rs 5 million to the patients being treated in the Narayani Sub Regional Hospital. Mahalaxmi Bank’s Janakpur Branch has donated four hundred thousand to the Province’s Relief Fund. District Police Office has arrested Suresh Kumar Karna for publishing fake news related to corona.

In Bagmati Province, all the public places which gather people were monitored. More than three thousand have been tested. Sindhupalchowk Helambu Rural Municipality is distributing medicine to the regular medicine users.

In Gandaki Province, 3,751 have been tested with RDT. According to the District Representatives of INSEC, the RDT and relief distribution were conducted swiftly. A woman tested positive with RDT has tested negative in the PCR test.

In Province 5, on 19 April 259 throat swabs were tested and 246 reports were negative while 12 are pending. The people returning from Kathmandu were fed by Nawalparasi Municipality and were helped to reach their destination.

In Karnali Province, two local FMs have been broadcasting educational programs considering the SEE appearing students. The program was launched by the Education Development and Coordination Unit Dailekh, Save the Children/ Everest Club Dailekh and local level. To control corona, five health desks have been established inside the municipal area. There are 24 people delegated at the health desks. The health workers are provided 15,000 as incentive every month.

In Sudur Paschim Province, the 21-year-old being treated at the Seti Provincial Hospital has been discharged. Basudev Bhatta who was staying in the quarantine of Pithauragad of India was brought back. While the nation is facing a complete lockdown, National Human Rights Commission has formed a Human Rights Monitoring Committee. INSEC’s DR Ramesh KC has been selected as a member of the committee from Bajhang. Jagdish Rokaya, Chairperson of the Federation of Journalist Bajhang was selected as the coordinator.
