Update of 1 May Regarding Corona Virus Infection

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the number of corona infected people has reached 59. The newly added ones are from Banke and Rupandehi. The 25-year-old man had returned from India, 14 days ago. He is being treated at the Corona Specialized hospital in Butwal which was once a thread factory.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry, 59 have been infected out of which 49 are men and 10 are women. Out of them 16 have already recovered and 43 are being treated.

Provincial Report

In Province 1, till 1 May 1,342 swabs have been tested and out of them, two women and 29 men have been tested positive. Through RDT 5,282 have been tested and out of them, 15 resulted positive. There are 2,321 people living in quarantine from which 43 have been discharged. There are 6,613 people living in home quarantine. There are 34 people in isolation. The Social Development Ministry has been provided with four different types of medicines which helps in building immunity of the corona infected patients.

In Province 2, a new PCR machine has been established Provincial Public Health Laboratory Janakpur on 1 May. In this province, 2,385 swabs have been tested and 1,910 results have arrived out of which 12 resulted positive. There are 475 reports pending. Till date 5,161 RDT have been conducted out of which 5,151 resulted negative and 10 tested positive. There are 1,459 staying in quarantine and 4,614 staying in home quarantine. There are 24 suspects of corona kept at isolation ward.

In Bagmati Province, on 1 May 157 were arrested for offending lockdown. They were kept in a room for two hours and were given awareness class regarding COVID-19. In Chitwan 52 two wheelers were held for offending the lockdown. Panchkhal Municipality has requested the locals to not conduct any festival during this Baishakh Poornima. Due to the lockdown, 3,000 Indian labourers stuck in 62 different brick factories are stuck in Bhaktapur. Until the lockdown ends, the local government has managed food for them and they are also given weekly Rs 600/ person.

In Gandaki Province, no swabs have been collected on 1 May. In Tanahu, relief distribution is ongoing while in Myagdi, food-grains are being collected. In Gorkha, 33 have been arrested for offending the lockdown. They were fined Rs 100 according to the Infectious Disease Code 2020 and they also had to attend one awareness class.

In Province 5, two men were found infected with coronavirus in Banke and Rupandehi. One of them is 25 years and another is 60 years. Till date 3,799 people have been tested with RDT. Palpa, Gulmi, Banke, Dang and Kapilbastu is continuing the relief distribution. Palpa’s radios are broadcasting educational programs for those students who were affected due to the lockdown.

In Karnali Province, the Economic Affair and Planning Minister Prakash Jwala has handed over thermal guns to all ten local levels. The isolation ward of corona special hospital established at Aathbiskot Municipality Rukum (West) was inaugurated on 30 April by the District Coordination Committee Rukum (West)’s Chief Raj Kumar Sharma. The isolation ward is now functioning. After the lockdown was made a little flexible in Kalikot District, the local level, Banks and finance companies have violated the lockdown completely. The CDO of Kalikot has assured of taking action against them.

In Sudur Paschim Province, the 34-year-old woman being treated at Seti Provincial Hospital for corona virus from the past 28 days has still shown positive result in her sixth swab test. The Nepalese rescued from Pithauragad were sent back to their respective local levels. Students recused from Kathmandu and kept in Gokuleshwor have complained about the quarantine to the Mayor of Shailya Shikhar Municipality; Amar Singh Dhami. They complained that the quarantine doesn’t meet any criteria. From the beginning of the lockdown, 22.569 families have received relief. The 28 Haliyas families of Amargadi Municipality 8 and 9 who were facing food crisis were given food by Nepal National Dalit Society Welfare Organization and Federation of National Haliya Society.
